Obtaining and Setting Up a
Domain Name
With EspritLMS
you get a complete website complete with your own unique
domain name - that means that when your
learners go to your website they
login to your url not ours.
This helps you enhance and extend your
corporate identity. You may even use the domain as your actual website - the choice
is yours. In any case, you will need a dedicated
domain name for your site on the EspritLMS Server.
GoDaddy.com is a great place to get
cheap domain names. If you are going to maintain your
corporate site on a different server, you might want to
consider getting a domain name the same as your corporate
site, but that ends with training. For example, if
your corporate site is mycompany.com, your ExpritLMS site
could be mycompanytraining.com. Or, another option
would be to look for the same domainname, but with a
different extension such as mycompany.net or mycompany.biz.
Once you get your domain name
for EspritLMS, you will want to set-up the domainname
servers for the new domain name. Our domainname
servers's are:
- NS.REHOSTSERVER.US
- NS2.REHOSTSERVER.US
If you need help with this aspect of
the set-up just let us know and we will tell you exactly
what you need to do. Once the domainname server is set
for your domain, let us know and we will set up the site on
the EspritLMS Server. It will take up to 24 hours for
the domain name to propagate throughout the internet.
About Your
Website
Because you are getting a
full website, you will also have ftp functionality, Front
Page extensions, e-mails - 5 accounts (including forwarding
and autoresponding). Your site can be managed through
the Plesk Server Administrator (don't worry, we provide
basic training on Plesk...and you might not
even need to use it :-). Our server is a
Linux/Apache System. We own the entire server which is
co-located at the Interland Miami Data Center. When
you are ready we will walk you through website functionality
and management - it is all very simple :-)
Serve Courses from Your
Server or Ours
One unique feature of
EspritLMS is that you can serve your course
files from any server, anywhere in the
world. While most of our customers
keep their course files right on our server,
some have decided to keep the files "closer
to home." For example, one customer or
ours is in Australia and all of her
customers are in Australia and New Zealand.
Her EspritLMS site is on our server in
Miami, but her actual courses are kept on
her server in Australia.
Why? Each time
your user requests another ToolBook page,
the request goes all the way back to our
server in Miami to get the information
requested. While this typically
happens in a split second it is simply
impossible to do that as quickly when you
are requesting information from half way
around the world as when you are requesting
it from within just a couple thousand mile
radius.

through tests to determine which approach
